Job Title: Assistant Camp Director

Reports to: Camp Director

Season: June 3 – August 16, 2019

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm

Pay: start at $12/hr

Position Purpose:

The Assistant Director’s main purpose is to assist the Director in providing the best possible camp experience to our community. This individual will be responsible for overseeing daily camp operations and responsibilities in the absence of the Camp Director.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain camper safety at all times
    • Mitigate risk during all camp activities
    • Supervise campers at all times
    • Perform First Aid, CPR, or use of an AED, in the event of an emergency
  • Work with the Director to coordinate and supervise daily operations
  • Oversee operations of before and aftercare
    • Schedule staff and volunteer
    • Create and submit daily attendance reports
    • Oversee tuition collection and financial reporting
  • Perform camper, volunteer and staff pickups
  • Perform Instructor’s duties as a backup rider, in the event of an Instructor’s absence
  • Program and facilitate Surprise days
  • Plan and facilitate social media campaign
  • Facilitate bike mechanic, riding skills, and route planning curriculum as needed
  • Facilitate team building activities with staff and volunteers
    • Lead and participate in specific games and activities designed to encourage teamwork
    • Maintain an inclusive atmosphere at all times

Other Job Duties:

  • Facilitate sign in/sign out
  • Clean facility
  • Perform minor repairs to camper bikes
  • Photograph camp activities for publication and advertising

Relationships:

The Assistant Director will be required to interact with Instructors, Interns, CIT’s, volunteers, campers, parents, and the Camp Director on a daily basis. On occasion, the Assistant Director may need to interact with facilities staff, Bikes Together staff, Bikes Together volunteers, medical and law enforcement personnel, child protection services employees, and the general public. Instructors, Interns and CIT’s will report to the Assistant Director as well as the Camp Director.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years old at time of camp
  • Experience supervising children (preferably 2+ professional years)
  • Management experience in a team-oriented workplace (preferably 1+ professional years)
  • Cycling expertise or experience
  • Ability to pass a First Aid/CPR/AED course (provided by Bike Camp)
  • Patience, maturity, leadership skills, and enjoy working with children.

Prefered Skills

  • Bicycle mechanics skills
  • Teaching expertise or experience
  • Camp expertise or experience

Physical Aspects of the Job:

The Assistant Director may be required to complete daily rides that can range from 1-35 miles depending on the age group they are with. These rides are slow paced and include plenty of breaks along the way. The Assistant Director must be able to ride a bicycle with one hand while looking in all directions and maintaining a straight line. The Assistant Director will need to routinely lift 50lbs of weight.
